Winona Ryder Professionally Winona Ryder, was born on Winona Minnesota. Her parents named their daughter after her hometown. Her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder's dad was born into an ethnically Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. Her half-siblings are younger, Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder's family moved from Mendocino, California, when she was seven years old. There they didn't have electricity. Ryder was a voracious reading book because there was no TV. When she turned twelve, Ryder took up a place at the American Conservatory Theatre to take classes in acting. The actress landed her first part on the big screen in 1986, at the age of 15 old. Ryder faced bullying in high school. Her professional acting, she believed that it would aid her. Unfortunately, that did not happen. The actress continued to chase her ambitions. In 1988, she received her biggest break with Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. Ryder continued to play successful roles in several movies. In 1993, she was nominated twice at the Academy Awards. One of them for her role on the film The Age of Innocence.
